French Embassy Gardens, Tokyo. Designed by Sempervivens
A continuation on the last post’s theme. It seems I’m not the only person inspired by Halprin.
What to do in a very limited space? This is a lovely solution. To me it has a feel of nature reclaiming the space. The planting has been planned to be allowed to grow as it pleases, with mosses and other natives allowed to colonise. The whole wall is watered using recycled rainwater. A tank releases the water it has collected from the roof periodically. The noise of the water trickling down must be a fantastic addition to the feel of the space.
Green walls are very popular with Architects, until they realise they need maintenance, and are complicated things to build. Maybe this hybrid is the way forward?
